Jeremy Hunt, Foreign Secretary, today calls for a clearer position on the persecution of Christians across the world. “Sense of misguided political correctness” has stopped the country from standing up for the rights of Christians world-wide. He described Christians as “the most persecuted religious group in modern times”.
The report published today by the Rt Rev Philip Mounstephen, Bishop of Truro and commissioned by the Foreign Secretary calls for the UN to take action to provide protection for Christians in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The report has found evidence of persecution and discrimination against Christians in Iraq, Nigeria, China and Indonesia and other nations.
The recommendations include seeks a Security Council resolution urging action by all governments in North Africa and the Middle East to protect the rights of Christians and other persecuted minorities.
Mr Hunt is quoted as saying, “The sense of misguided political correctness that has stopped us standing up for Christians overseas must end.”
