Commission Prayer Blog 2016

“What, then, can we say in response to this?” – famous words from Romans 8 shared at the end of our time of worship at our recent Commission Prayer days. We had been enjoying God’s presence through worship considering the majesty, grace and mercy of Jesus and these words summarised our time perfectly. Those verses go on, “…neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:39). What an incredible statement that demands an outpouring of worship!

WorshipFor two days this week, over 130 UK Commission church leaders met in Bournemouth to pray for our churches and for our shared vision to see thousands of lives transformed through hundreds of churches in tens of nations.

This was the first time since Westpoint that the UK Commission church leaders had met together and Guy was able to bring an update on what has been happening across our churches, including the development of a new leadership team who are leading the SURE strategy.

For those who were at Westpoint this year, you will remember the final message from Guy – “are you SURE?’. This is reflected in our plans to see our vision fulfilled through SEND, UNIFY, RELEASE and EQUIP. Fore more about our SURE strategy- please click here

Guy spoke on the first day about six key values for our churches, using some of his own life story to unpack what these mean for us – salvation, the Bible, the church, men and women, grace and mission. We also heard from, and prayed for, Joseph and Lilian Mwila from Zambia about the 40+ churches that they are leading there among very challenging circumstances.

Much of the second day was getting the leaders working! The first wave of activity that launched our vision at Westpoint will be followed up by a second wave of SURE actions, but at the moment there is much planning and praying going on behind the scenes. Developing and implementing those plans is going to take an army of people including church leaders, so we spent some time hearing from the SURE team leaders and then working in groups to get people

Group Discussions 2All that work will be taken forward and help shape the plans for SURE as they emerge in coming weeks and months. We are believing God for amazing things as we step out in faith to reach for something that, without Him we cannot see happen, but as William Carey said, “expect great things from God, attempt great things for God”. In that same manner we are pressing forward together.
